Reading Now

Got a new book to read!!! Weee! Finally :D

I've been hearing a lot of buzz lately about the Secret McQueen series by

Something Secret This Way Comes (Secret McQueen #1):

Some secrets are dangerous. This Secret is deadly.

For Secret McQueen, her life feels like the punch line for a terrible joke. Abandoned at birth by her werewolf mother, hired as a teen by the vampire council of New York City to kill rogues, Secret is a part of both worlds, but belongs to neither. At twenty-two, she has carved out as close to a normal life as a bounty hunter can.

When an enemy from her past returns with her death on his mind, she is forced to call on every ounce of her mixed heritage to save herself—and everyone else in the city she calls home. As if the fate of the world wasn’t enough to deal with, there’s Lucas Rain, King of the East Coast werewolves, who seems to believe he and Secret are fated to be together. Too bad Secret also feels a connection with Desmond, Lucas’s second-in-command…

Product Warnings:
This book contains a sarcastic, kick-ass bounty hunter; a metaphysical love triangle with two sexy werewolves; a demanding vampire council; and a spicy seasoning of sex and violence.

Because of her abilities as a witch, the demons under Raina’s protection can feed off the sexual energy of their clients without killing them—definitely a good thing for repeat business.

But when a rogue incubus shows up on Raina’s doorstep begging for asylum, the witch’s well-run business is put in jeopardy. The incubus has stolen an object of great power from Lucifer, and Underworld Dark Guardian Mikhael will do anything to get it back—even if it means incinerating the incubus on Raina’s porch to get the answers he seeks.

Not to be trifled with, Raina enters a dangerous match of wits with Mikhael to achieve their mutual goals—only to discover that the reluctant attraction between them is the most hazardous game of all…

Dark Frost (Mythos Academy #3):

I’ve seen so many freaky things since I started attending Mythos Academy last fall. I know I’m supposed to be a fearless warrior, but most of the time, I feel like I’m just waiting for the next Bad, Bad Thing to happen. Like someone trying to kill me—again.

Everyone at Mythos Academy knows me as Gwen Frost, the Gypsy girl who uses her psychometry magic to find lost objects—and who just may be dating Logan Quinn, the hottest guy in school. But I’m also the girl the Reapers of Chaos want dead in the worst way. The Reapers are the baddest of the bad, the people who murdered my mom. So why do they have it in for me?

It turns out my mom hid a powerful artifact called the Helheim Dagger before she died. Now, the Reapers will do anything to get it back. They think I know where the dagger is hidden, but this is one thing I can’t use my magic to find. All I do know is that the Reapers are coming for me—and I’m in for the fight of my life.

She’s aware of a struggle within herself, an inexplicable pull toward danger, but Anna, the ultimate good girl, has always had the advantage of her angel side to balance the darkness within. It isn’t until she turns sixteen and meets the alluring Kaidan Rowe that she discovers her terrifying heritage and her willpower is put to the test. He’s the boy your daddy warned you about. If only someone had warned Anna.

Forced to face her destiny, will Anna embrace her halo or her horns?

Deadlocked (Sookie Stackhouse #12):

With Felipe de Castro, the Vampire King of Louisiana (and Arkansas and Nevada), in town, it’s the worst possible time for a body to show up in Eric Northman’s front yard—especially the body of a woman whose blood he just drank.
Now, it’s up to Sookie and Bill, the official Area Five investigator, to solve the murder. Sookie thinks that, at least this time, the dead girl’s fate has nothing to do with her. But she is wrong. She has an enemy, one far more devious than she would ever suspect, who’s out to make Sookie’s world come crashing down.

 Vortex (Cutter Cay #3):

IN TOO DEEP

What she doesn't realize is that her appointed time to die is drawing near and the wickedly beautiful soul she is falling in love with is not a soul at all.

He is Death and he's about to break all the rules.

Published in: December 12th 2011 by Wild Child Publishing.

Genre: Young Adult, Paranormal Fantasy, PNR

Book review:

For starters, do you see that book cover? Do you see it? Its GORGEOUS!

To the point. The heroine, Pagan, is a seventeen year old girl that can see souls for as long as she can remember. Usually she ignores them until one day when she sees a beautiful and sexy soul that speaks to her. Souls never speak to her and she is intrigued, and yet, annoyed by this particular "soul". He is Death and he has come to claim her.

Death has a name, Dank, and he is fascinated with this girl. When he goes to claim a soul he expects that person to see him and to talk to him, its a way for him to ease that persons death and to help his/hers soul move from this plane onto "heaven" to have his/hers chance to be reincarnated. You see, souls are immortal, and when someone dies, his soul has a chance to have another life, if they agree to move on. But Pagan is a new soul, a soul that he remembers from the past. He was supposed to claim her when she was little, yet something changed.

Soon Dank, takes his human form and enrolls in Pagans school. She is surprised that everyone can see him now and she finds her self falling for him.

Leif, is a boy that Pagan never liked. But he has other plans! Pagan starts tutoring him and soon they start dating. I have to say that I felt sorry for Leif on this book since Pagan never returned his feelings. :(

The day of her death comes near and Dank refuses to claim her soul and instead saves her, breaking in the process all the rules he was following until now and someone is pissed!

Pagan and Dunks relationship is very complex but nevertheless I enjoyed reading this book, I really enjoyed Miranda and Wyatt (Pagan best friends) their relationship is very unique, and I kept smiling to my self every time I was reading their dialogues! The book kept surprising me the whole time and its very refreshing to read. Its unique and has some very new ideas that completely change your idea of death. This book has everything! Humor, Love, Friendship, Family.... I just adore it! :)

Next book in this trilogy is Predestined and it was published this year in March 29th 2012.

A Soul For Trouble (Soulbearer #1) by Crista McHugh

Book name: A Soul For Trouble (Soulbearer #1)

 Cover:

Author: Crista McHugh

Book Description: When you’re a witch named Trouble, chaos follows.

Arden Lesstymine (known to everyone as Trouble) likes attention as much as the next girl, but this is getting ridiculous. When an insane stranger is murdered at the inn where she works, Trouble becomes the next Soulbearer for the disembodied god of chaos, Loku. Yes, it comes with the ability to channel the god’s limitless power, but at the cost of her sanity — literally. Now she has a sexy but cynical knight claiming to be her protector, a prince trying to seduce her to his cause (and his bed), and a snarky chaos god who offers a play-by-play commentary on it all, whether she wants to hear it or not. To make matters worse, a necromancer wants to capture the soul of Loku for his own dark purposes, and the only way he can get it is by killing her first.

Published in:  February 7th 2012 by Create Space.

Genre: Paranormal Fantasy, PNR

Book Review:

The heroine, Arden Lesstymine or Trouble, is a blonde haired, blue eyed barmaid that works for her uncle at his inn in a town that everyone is black haired and brown eyed. That and the fact that she is secretly a witch makes her receive unwanted attention from the town folks (witches are not allowed in the country and are burned when discovered).

Trouble follows the heroine everywhere, hence the nickname Trouble. She becomes the next "vessel" for the god of Chaos Loku without wanting it and meets Devarian Tel’brien, a Knight of Gravaria (short name Dev) who claims that he is her sworn protector and its his duty to take her to Gravaria to keep her safe and give her proper magical training. Becoming a "vessel" for the god of Chaos is no joke. Loku has unlimited power but it comes with a cost, her sanity.

Dev and Trouble begin their journey to Gravaria but soon they discover that a necromancer its hot on their tails and he wants Trouble. He wants to take her and use Loku to his advantage whatever that may cost.
When they see the necromancer in a city destroying everyone is his path, Trouble chooses to disobey Dev and save the people. There she meets Kell, a prince that is his duty to report witches to his father despite the fact that he is enthralled by Trouble. Kell soon realizes that he cares for Trouble and he wishes to save her. They soon set to meet his father so he can try and change his mind for this particular witch.

Dev and Kell both care for Trouble. Dev is tormented with the fact that he cares so much about her and Loku keeps playing games with him and teases him about that fact. Because its Devs duty to keep Trouble safe he pushes her away every time they come close to each other, confusing Trouble in the process.

Ms. McHugh did a wonderful job on this book! The writing is excellent and the book is fast paced and keeps the reader on edge the whole time! I found myself connecting with all the characters. Trouble is my kind of heroine despite the fact that she is so hard-headed some times. I adored Dev even though I wanted to smack him in the head when he was being so stubborn, Kell was annoyingly sweet some times and Loku, well, Loku is a fun, fun god of Chaos. Personally I can't wait for the next book of this series to come!
